Bob's ART du Jour

Hi, I'm Bob Eggleton and this is my painting and "life in general blog" but mostly paintings. Usually they're for sale. Anyway, if you like something contact me at zillabob@cox.net and ENJOY!!

Location: New England, United States

I am a Hugo award-winning fantasy/SF artist who works on both publishing projects and film concept work(such as Jimmy Neutron and most recently, The Ant Bully) but I have a passion for landscape work, small paintings and exploring the properties of paint. This blog will mostly showcase my "painting-for-the-day" as kind of a personal voyage. I'll also be inserting sketches, photos and ideas of projects I am working on, that I can, when I can, so look for those every so often(usually as paint is drying!)

Another sketch...

Another fun sketch from my sketchbook. It'll be part of my upcoming book on how to draw and paint dragons(coming in 2010 with all luck). This one is a "Woodland Dragon" done in charcoal.

Ooh, I like the texture of your shading and how dark your darks are! Why don't my sketches look this nice? Maybe I should work with charcoal in my sketchbook... I hesitate to because it's so messy. But look at the results you're getting! I really feel the solidity of that dragon.

Annalisa-thanks! Charcoal is wonderful for keeping stuff loose and you can go in and erase stuff from the dark areas. And then on this case, I use white conte to bring out the highlights. I also work on Strathmore ivory drawing paper which has a nice "off" white to it that I like as it isn't so stark!
